LEARNING OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM
For the past several years I have been working for a residential treatment program for troubled teens. My experiences there have sparked my desire to go back to school. Of particular interest is the study of psychology. As I observed and interacted with many of the students I became fascinated with trying to understand the challenges these young adults faced, how they could be helped, and learn to help themselves. I’m beginning to take some of my psychology core classes and recognize the language, methodologies and approaches used by the facility staff and counselors as they work with groups of students. Making this connection has increased my desire to learn, to explore more deeply the discipline of psychology.
